Lighting Woes - Funny World

June 2nd, 2010

As Swansea council have decided to switch off around 1,500 street lights in in search of savings up to £100,000 a year (BBC News - Swansea Council begins street light cut backs), Cape Town in South Africa’s city bosses are to keep the lights on round the clock to deter thieves of a surging crime wave involving the theft of electricity cables blighting the city (Cape Town lights stay on in daylight to deter theft)

While the Capetonians hope the thieves, said mainly to be drug addicts, would not risk their lives with live wires, the Swansea folk will be dimming the targeted lights as early as 2000 BST before switching them off completely at midnight.

Funny world.
