Palin - Probably the first female US President.

November 5th, 2008

Well strike me sideways, I personally thought Obama would not do it, Privately I thought this would be high turn-out at the last minute - of the people that the pollsters will not have expected to vote - to ensure he did not win. So far he is only 4% ahead in the popular vote but the job has been done.

For the rest of the world, the McCain/Palin ticket was just not the combination required but unlike Bush's second term selection, the American people ensured that complacency did not happen again - with a magnificent 64% turn-out. However, Palin may not have been ready for this election but 8 years down the line, who knows, it could be a two woman - Clinton vs Palin - race then! Remember you read it here first.

I expect 2 terms with Obama or at least his party, because we must recognise that of all the previous presidents, he is the one in the most danger for his life, this election does not mean racism, and fascist racism at that, has disappeared from the US landscape. The FBI better be on the ball and remain so for the next 8 years.

As for Obama, reality is about to set in. Will he be able to deliver on most of his promises? It is easy to talk the talk when you are not in the position to make the difficult choices that face a leader of one of the strongest countries in the world. There is so much expectation, there is bound to be so much disappointment in a few years time when the euphoria has faded.

In the meantime though, congratulation America and congratulations - son of Africa - Obama.
