East Midlands Airport - why?

October 2nd, 2008

I am really struggling to get into the daily upkeep of this blog. Additionally sometimes I just want to write about something that has no real relevance to self improvement and the four states of the human experience. But when I do, I will try to relate it because if I have to mention it, it must have had an effect. Well here goes for the next installment.

I have had the great experience of having to get to East Midlands airport and back by public transport. Let me say this once (echoes of ‘Allo ‘Allo) , if you want to leave the car at home, don’t fly from there! If you are even more unlucky and coming from outside the East Midlands, you may have the joys of Derby Railway station to contend with as well. Now I have been through this station on my way to York, Leeds and other northern gem cities for quite a long time and as far as I can remember, Derby has always been in the process of renovation. How much is this stuff costing?

Back to the point, EMA is served by a once every 30 minutes bus service from Derby and the journey takes 30 minutes to complete –and no, it is not a shuttle service – this is a proper local bus service that stops at every stop in every village along the way- exactly what where they thinking? This has got to be the worst public transport served airport in the UK! And they spent probably a couple of 100,000 pounds a few years ago advertising it in the West Midlands. Why? Birmingham International is very well served so I do not have to leave a wad of cash just to park my car.

Let’s just say it did my karma no good to experience this.
