The Self Stocktake

September 26th, 2008

Well, occasionally one has to stop and check the results of one’s endeavours. It is the way we measure our successes and failures and I do not think there is a person on this planet that at some occasion has had to re-assess the position one is in. All successful businesses, big or small, do it on a regular basis!

Just think about it, even the caveman had to consider options. Do we stay here where the food is scarce or do we move on? Most of the time they must have moved on, otherwise how did Homo sapiens conquer the planet?

I think we should take stock of ourselves more often in today’s world, otherwise we find ourselves so far down the wrong route. For a lot of us, the change required to come back is too much and we continue down the path of pain and regret for the rest of our lives. When you take stock, you review results; if the results are not right then it is time to make a change. How long can you keep hitting your head on a brick wall before you go looking for a wreaking ball? Otherwise all you ever have is a sore head!

Where am I now and where do I want to be? How do you measure the results? Well that is based on what you want (not desire or wild dreams) and your true and honest perception of success. Sounding familiar?

If you haven’t taken stock for a while, time to stop and do so as soon as you can. Take some time-out; every one of us should have time for themselves. If you can’t spend time with yourself then you do not like nor love yourself and you are heading for one hell of a heartache! Be warned though, some tough decisions and or change may be in store – especially if you have not taken stock in a long time, you may find some things have been stolen from you!

My stock-take is now under way – watch this space.
