It's been change all the way

September 24th, 2008

Well today I suspect is the start of another round of changes. I mean its only been a month or so when another two or maybe even three marriages of close people appear to heading for the rocks (see previous post). And we have only just moved into this house a few months ago after 12 years in the same house where if I remember correctly less than a year previously, the company I worked for was taken over and we moved offices miles away. Screwed up my fitness schedule that did, as I had to catch a bus and train instead of walk to work since then. If I remember rightly, I started the new fitness regime after I discovered I was actually obese and not the sexy dude I thought I was. I now have joined a gym to get rid of the new fat, another change to my well planned routine!

I think it was only a year or two before I was on the redundancy list and heading for the unemployment line when the management buyout saved me the embarrassment and regretting the fact that I had at the mature age of 30 something decided to change profession, if you want to call it that. Just only a couple of years ago, I was a public servant, working in a school doing safe stuff like accounts, administration and other safe clerical stuff.

I was working in a school with its inherent risks because a couple of years before I decided that 4 years or so of the same slow promotion job that necessitated numerous financial upheavals like moving house once a year and the dodging of poll tax bills ( I have paid every penny with a hefty interest of blood, sweat and tears) , the closing of bank accounts – closed by the bank - was not a reasonable reward for all the pain. After all, only a few years before they offered me a temporary minor clerical post because, I suppose, they thought that a previously African trained worker – just arrived off the boat so to speak, could not really be any better than a newly qualified British taught college student! Four years later and a couple of grades up, change was required. One has to fell challenged, doesn't one?

Before making a crazy change like emigrating to Europe after a period of stability..... not .... leaving school, training etc etc etc

Its been change all the way, change, change and more change. Nothing has stood still and that is why I am still alive and moving forward.

Nothing special about today, a few days after the Equinox, not any particular Saint's day – as far as I know – not even a win on the lottery as I didn't play - but I know that today will be special – even if I don't remember the date – that what is happening is the start of yet another set of changes. Haven't done so bad so far – bring it on!
